Sermon Series: COST OF DISCIPLESHIP
Deepening My Dependence Upon God, Rev. T. Crowe

Key Verse(s): Matthew 4:1-11, 6:16-18; 9:14-17; Acts 13:1-3
Memory Verse(s): Psalm 73:25-26

Key Points & Principles

1. Jesus prayed and fasted. He taught and expected His disciples to do same.

2. The early church continued to pray and fast.

3. The spiritual discipline of praying and fasting helps us: depend and trust more upon God over the ways and influences of this world; battle against temptation, Satan, and the ways of the flesh; seek direction/vision from God; prepare, equip, and strengthen us for the Gospel-Ministry of Jesus Christ.

F.OCUS: reveal humility and dependence on God
A.BSTAIN: remove as God makes known and replace with extended time to be with God
S.PRITUALLY STRENGTHENED: keep in prayer and praises with God through the Enemy’s temptations
T.REASURES BY GOD: prayer & fasting is for God who will reward NOT for the praises of men

REFLECT, REPENT, BE RENEWED!

1. How did Jesus speak specifically to you this morning?
2. What pressures, pulls, and sways of the world is taking you away from drawing closer to God? Do you find the battles in the flesh seem to be stronger than the power of the Spirit in your life? What steps could you take to grow stronger in the Spirit to battle against the unholy ways of flesh?
3. Is Jesus calling you into an extended time of prayer & fasting? If so please consider going through BAC’s 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting.

God Bless!
