Sermon Series: COST OF DISCIPLESHIP
Consider the Cost, Rev. T. Crowe
__________________________________________________________
Key Verse(s): Luke 14:25-35 / Memory Verse(s): Psalm 139:23-24
Key Points & Principles:
I. ASKINGS (requirement to follow Jesus as one of His disciples)
a. FULLY DEVOTED – Need to be fully committed/devoted to Jesus over all other relationships, personal preferences, and desires, especially when they conflict with the ways, purposes, and priorities of Christ.
b. PICK UP YOUR CROSS FOR HIS CAUSE - Be willing and ready to suffer for Jesus.
II. WARNINGS (miscalculating the cost)
a. unable to finish well as a good and faithful servant
b. a greater cost for rejecting Jesus (warring against God) who has come to establish peace and reconciliation (salvation/eternal life)
c. worldly (sinful) compromises will lose saltiness (effectiveness/influence) for Jesus & God’s Kingdom purposes
REFLECT, REPENT, BE RENEWED!
1. What cost-commitment is Jesus asking of you as His disciple? What choices and actions do you need to take that places Jesus as priority over all other relationships, possessions, and personal preferences? Are you willing to take up your cross for this?
2. How is Satan tempting you NOT to follow in the cost-askings from Jesus?
3. What worldly (sinful) compromises do you have to repent (turn away) from? Spend time in prayer allowing God to speak in this area.
God Bless!
