"Without the Holy Spirit, Christian discipleship would be inconceivable, even impossible. There can be no life without the life-giver, no understanding without the Spirit of truth, no fellowship without the unity of the Spirit, no Christlikeness of character apart from his fruit, and no effective witness without his power. As a body without breath is a corpse, so the church without the Spirit is dead." - John Stott

Acts 2:1-41 teaches us how we may embrace the presence of our risen & ascended Christ that allows Him to more realized through us. The following is in summary.

1. EMBRACE GOD'S WORD: The crowd was being showered with GOD'S WORD through Apostle Peter's preaching. This allowed the crowd the opportunity to gain more understanding and clarity to God's ways. The Spirit-filled believers were not drunk as some believed.

2. ALLOW THE HOLY SPIRIT TO MOVE INTO YOUR HEART: The crowd was cut to the heart as they received the SPIRIT'S CONVICTION. The truth proclaimed brought a deep sorrow coming to realize what took place in the death of Jesus their Messiah. How much are we willing to allow the Holy Spirit to move deeply into our hearts? "My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, God, will not despise"(Ps. 51:17).

3. REPENT: This is an agreement with God that change must happen. This is a turning from the ways you once held to and a turning to God and His ways for your life.

4. BE BAPTIZED: This faithful and obedient act publically witnesses your new life with your risen Lord and Savior Jesus Christ - the One who defeated the power of sin & death.

5. RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT: At the time of our conversion we receive the Holy Spirit who baptizes us into Christ (1 Cor. 12:13). This is often witnessed by our water baptisms. However there is also another dimension. We are called to be Spirit-filled believers which empowers us for Kingdom service and Christ-like living. Living a Spirit-filled life is about us having a continual yielding and surrendering of ourselves in ways that allows the Holy Spirit to take full residence and direction in our lives. YOUR DESIRE TO LIVE FOR CHRIST IS THE SPIRIT'S DESIRE TO MAKE IT HAPPEN! Luke 11:13 reads, "If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him."

I'm confident that by embracing these principles you will be,as expressed in the words of Jim Elliot, "ignitable." Let's continue to fan the flame and not allow the Spirit's fire to go out!
