"Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!"-Philippians 2:6-8

It's quite amazing when I think about how God moved into our "worldly-neighbourhood" through his Son Jesus Christ! God did so, not through royalty or a well-known famous family, but through a poor couple who would lay the Son of God in a trough! John 1:14 reads, "The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighbourhood..." - The Message.

When we look at the history of God's mighty movements it's often initiated through small things. For example, Moses and his rod were used to rescue a nation of people out of Egypt; a young boy and a few rocks were used to conquer Goliath the giant; a child's small lunch of loaves and fish were used to feed 5,000 people, etc. Even faith as SMALL as a mustard seed is enough to begin moving BIG mountains because GOD is in that faith! So you may feel inadequate, unqualified, not skilled, talented, or gifted to be used by God - GUESS WHAT - YOU QUALIFY! None of us have the qualifications on our own however God is the one who pours out exactly what we need with our willingness to be used by God.

JESUS IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD - John 2:1-11 (Wedding Ceremony)
As you may know the account, there is a crisis with this ceremony - there is NO MORE WINE! Culturally, this is quite the embarrassment and even a social disgrace for the groom and his family. So Mary, Jesus' mother, has a solution - JESUS! But Jesus seems a bit reserved by performing this miracle for by doing so would initiate the count-down towards His death. He will begin to stand out and thus the clock will begin ticking... He nonetheless performs this supernatural miracle in turning water into wine which also illustrates the following: He is able to CREATE & TRANSFORM from one condition to another (we are a new creation...2 Cor. 5:17); the water used for religious purification and cleansing is now through the blood of Christ (often represented by wine - communion); and, the hope of the future with Christ as we enter the final wedding scene with Him (the church as the bride, Jesus as the groom).

The question is this, are we also willing to begin to stand out in ways that makes Christ known in our community or even to our neighbours? How does your community (i.e, work, school, etc.) see the Salt and Light of Jesus through you?

Jesus said, "As the Father has sent me, I am sending you" (John 20:21). Let's go into our neighbourhood and make the loving presence of God visible through living out Christ in us.
