"Then Peter said, 'Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit...'" Acts 5:3

This is the first account where we see God's divine judgment fall upon the early church community. What happened? Unfortunately, for this married couple, they made a terrible decision that had them test and lie against the work of the Holy Spirit. They wanted to look good in their giving however in a deceitful and hypocritical way. THEY WANTED TO LOOK THE PART WITHOUT THE HEART!

We are able to learn a few things from this account:
1. Sin is sin and does have holy consequences. 2. The church isn't pretty nor perfect. 3. The church is a sacred-holy gathering. 4. We need to test and discern the spirits amongst us (1 John 4:1).

This early church just experienced Satan's dangerous influence while also witnessing God's holy presence and power required to preserve the purity and holiness of this community.

This account asks of us to examine our motives behind what we do. What is your true motive behind your worship? Behind your offering? Behind the way you serve? What are you looking to receive? Is Satan trying to influence your motives? Are you trying to look the "religious part" with no true Holy heart? How is your heart towards God and the church? What could you do to foster a healthier attitude of reverence towards God?

As you explore some of these reflective questions may the Holy Spirit guide you into any area of repentance. May you move forward with good and holy motives for God's Kingdom!

Blessings,
Pastor Trevor
